| Abstract: | Complements digital maps included with volume. Reviews present knowledge of glacial history of Norway, discussing in detail reconstruction of Late Weichselian maximum and Younger Dryas ice sheets. Considers calving glaciers first appeared along Norwegian coast around 11 Myr ago. Maximum Pleistocene glacial extent was about same as, or slightly beyond, Late Weichselian. Discusses history and limits of Early and Middle Weichselian glaciation, and details of Late Weichselian (e.g., age of glacial limit, ice streams on continental shelf and development of Norwegian Channel trough-mouth fan, ice sheet profile and evidence of nunataks) and Younger Dryas. Constructs glaciation curve for western Scandinavia and sketch-maps ice sheet configuration at several stages. |
