Pleistocene glaciations in Ireland / Jasper Knight, Peter Coxon, Marshall A. McCabe, Stephen G. McCarron.

Title: Pleistocene glaciations in Ireland / Jasper Knight, Peter Coxon, Marshall A. McCabe, Stephen G. McCarron.
Author(s): Knight, Jasper.
Coxon, Peter.
McCabe, Marshall A.
McCarron, Stephen G.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part I Europe. (2004.),
Abstract: Complements digital maps included with volume. Describes evidence for ice extent and flow direction during Munsterian and late Midlandian glaciations in Ireland, correlated with Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 2-5d (Weichselian) and 6-78 (Saalian), respectively. Presents glacial model, updated in light of recent research, for proposed ice centres, limits and vectors during these glaciations. Identifies and characterizes six late Midlandian glacio-climatic stages between 25-10 ¹⁴C kyr BP, from Last Glacial Maximum to Nahanagan stadial (correlated with Younger Dryas/Loch Lomond stadial). Evidence for Munsterian ice limits is equivocal, based mainly on erratic carriage and presence of striae and subdued glacial landforms found exclusively in south of Ireland outside well-marked Midlandian end moraines.
