Weichselian glaciation of the Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia / Christian Hjort, Per Mölloer, Helena Alexanderson.

Title: Weichselian glaciation of the Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia / Christian Hjort, Per Mölloer, Helena Alexanderson.
Author(s): Hjort, Christian.
Mölloer, Per.
Alexanderson, Helena.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part I Europe. (2004.),
Abstract: Complements digital maps included with volume. Summarises recent work on north-western and central Taymyr peninsula regarding glacial/marine history. Presents glaciation curve. Maximum Pleistocene glaciation, with entire region covered by ice, probably occurred during Saalian Stage. Three main phases of Weichselian glaciation were mainly caused by ice-sheet advance from Kara Sea shelf. Early Weichselian ice reached 250 km beyond Byrranga Mts and inundated Chelyuskin peninsula. Discusses deglaciation from this maximum and formation of North Taymyr ice-marginal zone (NTZ). Describes Early, Middle and Late Weichselian generations of NTZ. Late Weichselian ice cap was short-lived, with LGM lasting only 8000 years and ice largely absent from present onshore areas by 12 ka BP.
