Record #170999:

A brief outline of the Quaternary of Lithuania and the history of its investigation / Rimante Guobytwe.

Title: A brief outline of the Quaternary of Lithuania and the history of its investigation / Rimante Guobytwe.
Author(s): Guobytwe, Rimante.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part I Europe. (2004.),
Abstract: Complements digital maps included with volume. Examines chronology and limits of last (Nemunas) glaciation in Lithuania. Within the Quaternary sediments that underlie all of Lithuania, 6 glacial and 8 interglacial periods have been identified. Maximum extent of last glaciation has been established in south-east, i.e., Lithuania was not entirely covered. Late Nemunas ice advance comprised two parts, the Grūda and Baltija Stadials (correlated with Pomeranian Stage), dated to approximately 25-22 kyr BP and 17 kyr BP, respectively. Several marginal morainic complexes may indicate three or four (South-, Mid-, and North-Lithuanian and Pajūris) additional ice front phases of retreating Pomeranian ice sheet.
