Record #170981:

The extent of Quaternary glaciations in Slovenia / Miloš Bavec, Tomaž Verbič.

Title: The extent of Quaternary glaciations in Slovenia / Miloš Bavec, Tomaž Verbič.
Author(s): Bavec, Miloš.
Verbič, Tomaž.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part I Europe. (2004.),
Abstract: Complements digital maps included with volume. Most of Slovenian part of Alps was glaciated during Pleistocene, excluding foreland apart from rare valley glaciers extending beyond limits of mountainous area. Snežnik Mountain in southern Slovenia also supported ice-cap. Continuous tectonic activity and steep alpine topography mean glacigenic sediments in Slovenian Alps have been eroded or redeposited and stratigraphical record is damaged to point where glacial events identified can rarely be age-constrained. Evidence of Rissian and Midelian glaciations exists, but maximum extent of Pleistocene glaciers is reconstructed according to most distal evidence of either glacial erosion or deposition, with no age assigned.
