Sazonalidade de aerossóis atmosféricos e microanálise individual por EDS em testemunho de gelo da ilha Rei George / Kely C. Dalia, Heitor Evangelista, Jefferson C. Simões, Enio B. Pereira.

Title: Sazonalidade de aerossóis atmosféricos e microanálise individual por EDS em testemunho de gelo da ilha Rei George / Kely C. Dalia, Heitor Evangelista, Jefferson C. Simões, Enio B. Pereira.
Translated title: Seasonality and individual analysis by EDS of atmospheric aerosols in ice of King George island.
Author(s): Dalia, Kely C.
Evangelista, Heitor.

Date: 2004.
Language: Portuguese.
In: Pesquisa Antártica Brasileira. (2004.), Vol. 4 (2004)
Abstract: Investigates concentration and elemental composition of atmospheric and ice-deposited aerosols on King George island (KGI), South Shetland islands. Determines elemental composition of coarse mode aerosol using energy dispersive spectrometry of samples from 7 intervals down 49.9 m snow/firn core from KGI ice cap. Observes systematic contribution of marine and crustal aerosol throughout core. Presence of giant S-enriched aerosol particles in bottom core layers suggests volcanic signature. Attributes seasonal pattern in atmospheric aerosol concentration, similar to those from other polar and sub-polar sites, to oceanic biological activity and cyclonic frequency. Aerosol number concentration higher at KGI than other Antarctic sites due to proximity of South American continent and transport efficiency of regional cyclone systems.
