| Abstract: | Describes chemical composition of four relict clinopyroxene samples locally preserved in metamorphic rocks on Elephant and Smith Islands. Two pyroxenes from Elephant Island and one sample from Smith Island have compositions compatible with origin in subalkaline basaltic rocks of ocean floor setting. However, composition of pyroxenes from other Smith Island sample indicate origin in alkaki basalts that may have been generated along fracture zone or in ocean island setting. |
