Abstract: Condensed paper. Presents preliminary results of ice-core age dating and paleoclimatic interpretation of thermometry in 211.7 m borehole. Models vertical non-stationary temperature profiles in crater glacier resulting from past surface temperature variations or changes in basal volcanic heating. Predicts ice flow paths and ages, using ash layers identified with volcanic eruptions as constraints. Borehole memory of surface temperature history is limited to 200 years. Discusses inferred surface and basal thermal conditions.
