Abstract: | Krill, penguin and seal fats from samples collected at King George Island, South Shetland Islands, were analysed to study occurrence and bioaccumulation of organochlorine residues in Antarctic food web. DDTs and PCBs were present in all samples and order of bioaccumulation factors was DDTs>PCBs. Krill presented lowest concentrations of DDTs (0.5 ng.g⁻¹) and PCBs (10.5 ng.g⁻¹). Concentration and bioaccumulation factor of organochlorine residues increased in penguin and seal, which are higher level predators in Antarctic food web. |
