| Abstract: | Reports study of heavily deformed glacial deposits from Danish island of Funen. From tectonic structures in outwash sediments deduces three different ice movement directions. Uses studies on overlying till to attribute deformations to main advance of Weichselian glaciation from NE and subsequent Young Baltic advance from SE. Differences in shear strength between deposits partly prevented overprinting by later ice advance and thus preserved mix of deformation directions. Concludes glaciotectonic structures influenced more by sediment rheology than by ice dynamics and high velocity of Young Baltic ice stream partly accomplished through deformation of soft, water-saturated bed. |
