Mass balance and area changes of four high Arctic plateau ice caps, 1959-2002 / Carsten Braun, D.R. Hardy, R.S. Bradley.

Title: Mass balance and area changes of four high Arctic plateau ice caps, 1959-2002 / Carsten Braun, D.R. Hardy, R.S. Bradley.

In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2004.), Vol. 86A(1) (2004)
Abstract: Reports results of recent (1999-2002) mass balance and GPS area measurements on four small, stagnant plateau ice caps located on Hazen plateau of Ellesmere island, Nunavut, Canada. Examines changes over period 1959-2002 using topographic maps, aerial photography and previously unpublished data. All four ice caps have currently negative net mass balance and have experienced substantial marginal retreat since at least 1959. Ice caps are below average regional equilibrium line altitude, indicating ongoing adjustment to post Little Ice Age climatic conditions. At current rate of mass loss, ice caps will disappear by, or soon after, mid-21st Century.
