Record #170382:

Is the attempt to estimate the biomass of Antarctic fish from a multi-species survey appropriate for all targeted species? Notothenia rossii in the Atlantic Ocean sector - revisited / K.-H. Kock, M. Belchier, C.D. Jones.

Title: Is the attempt to estimate the biomass of Antarctic fish from a multi-species survey appropriate for all targeted species? Notothenia rossii in the Atlantic Ocean sector - revisited / K.-H. Kock, M. Belchier, C.D. Jones.
Author(s): Kock, K. -H.
Belchier, M.
Jones, C. D.
Date: 2004.
In: CCAMLR Science. (2004.), Vol. 11 (2004)
Abstract: Uses catch data from South Georgia, Elephant Island and South Shetland Islands from 1976-2002 to argue that patchy distribution of Notothenia rossii has prevented conventional multi-species bottom trawl surveys from providing reliable estimates of its biomass. Suggests ways in which future surveys and analyses might be structured, including use of acoustic survey combined with identification hauls.
