Record #170123:

The thermal condition of the active layer in the permafrost at Hornsund, Spitsbergen / Jan Leskiewicz, Zbigniew Caputa.

Title: The thermal condition of the active layer in the permafrost at Hornsund, Spitsbergen / Jan Leskiewicz, Zbigniew Caputa.
Author(s): Leskiewicz, Jan.
Caputa, Zbigniew.
Date: 2004.
In: Polish Polar Research. (2004.), Vol. 24(3-4) (2004)
Abstract: Ground temperature variations were analysed to a depth of 160 cm, with respect to meteorological elements and short-wave radiation balance, from May 1992-June 1993. Considers the development of perennial permafrost and its spatial distribution. Snow cover found to restrain heat penetration in the ground, hindering the ground thawing process. Cross-correlation shows a significant influence of the radiation balance (K*) on the values of near-surface ground temperatures (r² = 0.62 for summer).
