Record #170118:
Geomorphology and bio-geographic zonation of southern Alaskan coasts: a review / Jörg-Friedhelm Venzke.
Title: | Geomorphology and bio-geographic zonation of southern Alaskan coasts: a review / Jörg-Friedhelm Venzke. |
Author(s): | Venzke, Jörg-Friedhelm. |
Date: | 2003. |
In: | Erde, Die. (2003.), Vol. 134(4) (2003) |
Abstract: | Intensive Pleistocene glaciations and Holocene isostatic uplift have influenced Alaskan regional landscape development, creating a fjordland along the southern Alaskan coastline. However, tectonic effects, like coseismic dislocations are important in south central Alaska. Study gives a detailed overview of coastal geomorphic processes and continental movements modified by sediment discharge from rivers and tidewater glaciers, tides and surf zone processes. Also presents the typical bio-zonation of tidal flats, beaches and rocky shores. |
