Abstract: Author is from Arctic settlement in Sápmi which has lost 30, mainly young men, of c. 2700 members from suicide since end of 1980s. Aim of study is to find theoretical basis (philosophical rather than psychological) for sad phenomenon, which has often gone in waves, and with some communities almost untouched. "It is more important to prevent problem than primarily to understand its causes".
