Aquatic microbiology: the ANARE perspective / Harvey J. Marchant, John Bowman, John Gibson, Johanna Laybourn-Parry, Andrew McMinn.

Title: Aquatic microbiology: the ANARE perspective / Harvey J. Marchant, John Bowman, John Gibson, Johanna Laybourn-Parry, Andrew McMinn.
Author(s): Marchant, Harvey J.
Bowman, John.
Gibson, John.
Laybourn-Parry, Johanna.
McMinn, Andrew.
Date: 2002.
Publisher: Kingston, Tasmania: Australian Antarctic Division
In: Australian Antarctic science; the first 50 years of ANARE. (2002.),
Abstract: Summarises aquatic microbiological research conducted since 1947, with particular reference to radical reappraisal of Antarctic marine environment since 1980s. Overview of biology and ecology of protists and bacteria in Antarctic aquatic habitats describes large and diverse community of microorganisms comprising photosynthetic cells, single- and multi-celled animals, bacteria, fungi and viruses interacting in network of production, consumption, repackaging and transformation. Includes microbiology of lacustrine systems, sea ice biota, and fjords, with extensive bibliography, and indicates likely directions for future research.
