Record #169435:

A comparison of field observation and wind tunnel experiment on the snowbreak effect of forests / Hiroyuki Toriat, Masaki Nemoto, Kouichi Nishimura, Takeshi Sato.

Title: A comparison of field observation and wind tunnel experiment on the snowbreak effect of forests / Hiroyuki Toriat, Masaki Nemoto, Kouichi Nishimura, Takeshi Sato.
Author(s): Toriat, Hiroyuki.
Nemoto, Masaki.
Nishimura, Kouichi.
Sato, Takeshi.
Date: 2004.
Language: Japanese.
In: Seppyo : Journal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice. (2004.), Vol. 66(3) (2004)
Abstract: Examines effectiveness of forests as snowbreaks. Reports observations of prototype experimental wood of 2.2 m Sakhalin spruce, Picea glehnii Masters, installed in field. Uses these to validate wind tunnel experiments on snow-break forests using model of prototype wood. Model experiment approximately reproduced snow drift distribution of prototype wood. Shows that narrow snow break forests function similarly to collector snow fences. Compares wind speed and storm duration of model experiment with those observed in field using respective similitude requirements proposed by Tabler and Anno.
