Risk analysis on snow-related casualty cases in Niigata Prefecture / Seiji Kamimura.

Title: Risk analysis on snow-related casualty cases in Niigata Prefecture / Seiji Kamimura.
Author(s): Kamimura, Seiji.
Date: 2003.
Language: Japanese.
In: Seppyo : Journal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice. (2003.), Vol. 65(2) (2003)
Abstract: Analyses risk trends for snow related casualty statistics from 46 winter seasons in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Details factor analysis of 1037 records from 16 most recent winters. Finds, e.g.: an average 127 accidents, 16 fatal, in each winter; most common casualty types involve falling from a height, snow-ploughs, and falling snow/objects; high fatality rates associated with falling into waterways, disease, ages 70+, and times between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.; accident risk increases with decreasing temperature and is high for snowfall exceeding 1 metre in 3 days; injuries to aged and young people were higher in 1990s than 1980s; snow-related fatality rate in mountainous snowy region almost equals that of traffic accidents and is 16 times that of occupational fatalities.
