| Abstract: | News and views piece on report in same issue of new 123,000-year climate record from North Greenland Ice Core Project (NGRIP). Reports how concern over possible disturbance of deepest ice in another Greenland ice core prevented reliable examination of Eemian (last interglacial) climate and motivated NGRIP, how unexpectedly high geothermal heat flux has removed oldest NGRIP ice, but allowed high annual resolution in record from ice that remains, and on major features of core's climate record from late-Eemian into last glacial period. Advocates new ice core in area with lower geothermal heat flux to obtain complete record of Eemian. |
