Recurring jökulhlaups in Sälk, northern Sweden / Per Klingbjer.
Title: | Recurring jökulhlaups in Sälk, northern Sweden / Per Klingbjer. |
Author(s): | Klingbjer, Per. |
Date: | 2004. |
In: | Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2004.), Vol. 86 A (2) (2004) |
Abstract: | Describes glacier environment and compiles jökulhlaup history for site of ice-damned lake at margin of Sälkaglaciären, in Kebnekaise Mountains of northern Sweden. Lake drained suddenly in August 1990 and July 2003, and at least 37 times since 1952. Presents optical and radar survey measurements used to map glacier surface and bed and constructs map of hydraulic potential. Provides field observations of two jökulhlaup events, with records of lake volume and discharge for 2003 event. Discusses possible mechanisms and prognosis. Topographic glacier map in pocket inside back cover. |
