Development of landform and sediment assemblages at maritime high-Arctic glaciers / Michael J. Hambrey, Neil F. Glasser.

Title: Development of landform and sediment assemblages at maritime high-Arctic glaciers / Michael J. Hambrey, Neil F. Glasser.
Author(s): Hambrey, Michael J.
Glasser, Neil F.
Date: 2002.
Publisher: Dordrecht: Kluwer
In: Landscapes of transition : Landform assemblages and transformations in cold regions. (2002.),
Abstract: Examines processes of debris incorporation, transfer and deposition in High-Arctic glaciers, focusing on Svalbard archipelago (including Spitsbergen). Glaciers here believed to be mainly polythermal, giving rise to distinctive suite of landforms which, if identifiable in formerly glaciated areas, can help constrain palaeoclimatic reconstructions. Concludes deformation within glacier ice, as debris is entrained and transported, is primary control on nature of landform and sediment assemblages in proglacial areas of valley glaciers. Uses observations of moraine complexes, etc., and conceptual models to describe most important landform-creating modes of debris entrainment. Applies ideas to interpretation of Pleistocene landforms and sediments in Britain.
