Record #169075:

Mass and volume contributions to twentieth-century global sea level rise / Laury Miller, Bruce C. Douglas.

Title: Mass and volume contributions to twentieth-century global sea level rise / Laury Miller, Bruce C. Douglas.
Author(s): Miller, Laury.
Douglas, Bruce C.
Date: 2004.
In: Nature. (2004.), Vol. 428(6981) (2004)
Abstract: Examines discrepancy between sea-level rise observed from tide gauges and estimates of contributions to rise from ocean warming and mass increase. Analyzes tide gauge and hydrographic data from areas in eastern Pacific and eastern North Atlantic Oceans to support earlier estimates of 1.5-2.0 mm/yr rise, with expansion estimated from temperature and salinity data accounting for only one third to one half of this. Argues against view that tide gauges have overestimated sea level rise through being sited in region of anomalously high warming, suggesting that data interpolation for World Ocean Atlas 1998v2 may be source of error. Concludes ocean mass increase, primarily from melting of glacial ice, plays larger role than warming.
