Record #168774:

Evaluation of snow-surface energy balance models in alpine terrain / C. Fierz, and 6 others.

Title: Evaluation of snow-surface energy balance models in alpine terrain / C. Fierz, and 6 others.
Author(s): Fierz, C.
Date: 2003.
Abstract: Evaluates energy balance simulations over snow covered alpine terrain, primarily with respect to radiation components influenced by small-scale topography. Uses extended version of Areal Energy Balance (AEB) model and compares this to commercial WinTherm/RT model, emphasising explicit coupling to snow cover as well as shading and scattering effects. Describes AEB model and its extension to internal snow cover processes, and test data from region near Davos, eastern Swiss Alps. Compares simulations for both subfreezing and melting snow covers on level and inclined terrains to in situ measurements of incoming radiation and snow surface temperature. Compares calculated snowmelt with observations.
