Record #168700:

Analysis of the taxonomy and nomenclature of the Procellariiformes based on complete nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene / John Penhallurick, Michael Wink.

Title: Analysis of the taxonomy and nomenclature of the Procellariiformes based on complete nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene / John Penhallurick, Michael Wink.
Author(s): Penhallurick, John.
Wink, Michael.
Date: 2004.
In: Emu. (2004.), Vol. 104(2) (2004)
Abstract: Analyses issues of higher-level relationships within order Procellariiformes in order to correct classification of taxa at levels of genus, subgenus, species and subspecies for many Antarctic and Southern Ocean seabirds. Working within multidimensional Biological Species Concept, rejects recently proposed splits among albatross species; reports strong relationship of storm-petrels to albatrosses; subdivides storm-petrels into Hydrobatinae and Oceanitinae; regroups Oceanodroma into four genera; merges Macronectes halli with M. giganteus; reassigns shearwaters into two major clades at generic level; proposes Lugensa as distinct genus; and suggests reducing prions to two species.
