The Holocene: an environmental history / Neil Roberts.
Title: | The Holocene: an environmental history / Neil Roberts. |
Author(s): | Roberts, Neil. |
Date: | 1998. |
Publisher: | Oxford: Blackwell |
Abstract: | Undergraduate level text first published in 1989. Examines natural and social changes during Holocene and links between them. Reviews paleoecological techniques and dating methods. Describes Pleistocene prelude (ice-age environment), its termination, and human ecology of the time. Subsequent chapters examine early Holocene environmental changes, such as sea level changes and forestation, and human adaptations to them, the rise of agriculture and its impact, the "taming of nature", modern and future human environmental impacts. Second edition incorporates new climatic information from, e.g., Greenland ice cores, and various advances in dating. |
