Record #168392:

Topographically-controlled deglacial history of the Humber river basin, western Newfoundland / J Batterson, Norm R. Catto.

Title: Topographically-controlled deglacial history of the Humber river basin, western Newfoundland / J Batterson, Norm R. Catto.
Author(s): Batterson, J.
Catto, Norm R.
Date: 2003.
In: Géographie Physique et Quaternaire. (2003.), Vol. 55(3) (2003)
Abstract: Describes glacial and deglacial history of Humber river basin and examines influence of large inland basin surrounded by coastal and interior highlands on late-glacial and early Holocene glacial history of western Newfoundland. Describes recognition and assessment of ice flow direction indicators (striations, till fabrics); mapping and description of Quaternary sediment, landforms and features; and assessment of dynamics and genesis of Quaternary features. Through understanding patterns of, and influences on, glacial movement, aims to provide data for glaciological or glacio-climatic modelling. Discusses ice flow in Long Range mountains, Topsails and coastal highlands and late-glacial ice centres, pro-glacial lake development and marine incursion.
