Record #168351:

The Quaternary glaciations and glacier properties in the Tanggula range / Keqin Jiao, Yongping Shen.

Title: The Quaternary glaciations and glacier properties in the Tanggula range / Keqin Jiao, Yongping Shen.
Author(s): Jiao, Keqin.
Shen, Yongping.
Date: 2002.
Language: Chinese.
In: Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology. (2002.), Vol. 25(1) (2002)
Abstract: Reviews chronology of Quaternary glaciations in Tanggula range on Tibetan plateau. Describes three Pleistocene glaciations, beginning with largest, Kunlun, ice age, about 0.8 to 0.6 Ma BP, when glacier area was some 16 to 18 times larger than present. Divides last ice age into earlier and later parts (glacial vestiges of earlier part yet to be found in field). Discusses later part, including Last Glacial Maximum, when scale of glaciers, mainly in form of ice cap and valley glaciers, was some 10 times larger than present. Continues with Neoglaciation following warm period of Holocene around 3500 a BP, and Little Ice Age, when glacier scale close to present. Attributes trend since Kunlun ice age to smaller glaciers in Tanggula range to drying resulting from Tibetan plateau uplift. Describes evolution of glacial climate type from monsoon maritime to continental.
