Abstract: Presents simple method for calculating thermal conductivity of soils for different water contents and dry densities, aimed at saving test numbers and cost in permafrost engineering. Method considers dry density, saturation degree, equivalent thermal conductivity of soils obtained with high dry density without water, thermal conductivities of water in frozen or unfrozen state, and gas. Reports good agreement with experimental data for both frozen and unfrozen soils, over ranges of water content and dry density.
