Abstract: | Examines Aeolian geomorphic development of glacial deposits around Puruogangri ice field, Tibetan plateau. Focuses on dune development, migration and erosion, presenting field observations and results of sand grain analysis. Also compares humus ¹⁴C dating of dune material with that of ancient soil, and ancient dune and ice core (Dunde) in other regions. Reports crescent dune migration and aggradation rates of around 1.8-0.5 cm a⁻¹ and 0.3-0.08 cm a⁻¹, respectively. Concludes environmental evolution around ice field depends mainly on temperature. Discusses implications of results for importance of southwest monsoon in region. |
