| Abstract: | Reports activities of Korean research programme based at King Sejong station on King George Island, South Shetland Islands. Includes biogeochemical cycling in Southern Ocean; atmosphere-ocean CO₂ system in Drake Passage; development of chitinase and chitin oligo saccharide using Antarctic bacteria; monitoring of terrestrial and marine environments around King Sejong station; methane hydrate in South Shetland Islands; plate structure of Shackleton fracture zone; and geological survey in Barton and Fildes peninsulas. Provides account of accident in bad weather on 7 December 2003, when geophysicist J.-G. Jeon was drowned in Maxwell Bay and two groups of researchers were briefly marooned on Ardley and Nelson islands. |
