| Abstract: | Reports glacier variations recorded over periods 1930-1960, 1960-1990 and 2001-2002. In 2002, variations were recorded at 51 locations. Reports start of surge of Reykjarfjardharjökull and completion of surges on Leirufjardharjökull and Kaldalónsjökull. All but seven termini retreated. Summarises regional temperature, precipitation and mass balance variations. Presents summer and winter mass balances and equilibrium line altitudes recorded on three glaciers of Hofsjökull (Sátujökull, Thjórsárjökull and Blágnípujökull) during 1987-2002. Warns mass balance of Blágnípujökull may be incorrect because of underestimation of accumulation area. |
