Record #167681:

Recent thickening trend of Glaciar Perito Moreno, southern Patagonia / Pedro Skvarca, Renji Naruse, Hernan De Angelis.

Title: Recent thickening trend of Glaciar Perito Moreno, southern Patagonia / Pedro Skvarca, Renji Naruse, Hernan De Angelis.
Author(s): Skvarca, Pedro.
Naruse, Renji.
De Angelis, Hernan.
Date: 2004.
In: Bulletin of Glaciological Research. (2004.), Vol. 21 (2004)
Abstract: Reports measurements of surface profile of Glaciar Perito Moreno, southern Patagonia, measured in December 1999 and 2002, and detailed analyses of ice thickness changes from 1990 to 2002. Describes glacier and known history, noting apparently stable state from 1990 to 1996. Describes survey method and observed thickness changes, which exceed 5 m a⁻¹ from 1999 to 2002. Believes these unlikely to be related to a surge, but is unable to ascribe either dynamic or mass balance-related cause. Notes formation of ice dam impeding drainage from pro-glacial lake Brazo Rico, and its possible future rupture.
