Frozen ground engineering / Orlando B. Andersland, Branko Ladanyi.

Title: Frozen ground engineering / Orlando B. Andersland, Branko Ladanyi.
Author(s): Andersland, Orlando B.
Ladanyi, Branko.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Hoboken: Wiley
Abstract: Undergraduate-level text. Introduces frozen environment and behaviour of frozen soil as engineering material and describes analysis and design of ground support systems, foundations and embankments. Includes construction of deep shafts, tunnels, deep excavations and subsurface containment barriers. Describes properties of frozen ground (composition, heat flow, thaw behaviour, mechanical properties, soil mass stability in cold regions). New chapter covers pavement structures in seasonal frost and permafrost areas. New material covers sensitivity of frozen ground to climate change, experimental work on frozen soil creep and strength, creep monitoring in frozen slopes, and frost protection of foundations using ground insulation. Appendix describes laboratory and field tests. References include computer program sources.
