Abstract: Famous story of race to get diphtheria serum from Nenana to Nome in 1925. Port was icebound; railhead 700 miles away across mountains, rivers and ice of Norton Sound. Sled relay was manned largely by Native Alaskans, but Seppala and Kaasen are best known today, with dogs Togo and Balto.
