Presents governing equations used to estimate stress state, instability zone configuration and volume of snow involved in motion, followed by equations comprising hydraulic-type avalanche dynamics model. Output of first part of model is input to second. Model is basically deterministic, with coefficients of dry and turbulent friction assumed random within known range. Presents solutions for avalanche path N 22 in Khibiny mountains, Kola Peninsula, Russia. Evaluates dynamic avalanche characteristics and estimates run-out distance, thickness and volumes of avalanche depositions, and impact pressures. Notes continuing need for direct observations of snow cover as input. Presented at International Symposium on Avalanches, September 2001, Kirovsk, Russia.
