Record #167303:

Rapid body size decline in Alaskan Pleistocene horses before extinction / R. Dale Guthrie.

Title: Rapid body size decline in Alaskan Pleistocene horses before extinction / R. Dale Guthrie.
Author(s): Guthrie, R. Dale.
Date: 2003.
In: Nature. (2003.), Vol. 426(6963) (2003)
Abstract: Cause of extinction of 70% of North American large mammals at end of Plistocene is uncertain. Horses figure centrally as they were dominant species, yet none survived to Holocene. Large number of fossils was selected for radiocarbon dating. Conclusion is that best reason is climatic and vegetational shift - not human overkill or other proposed causes.
