Abstract: Area was used for exploratory drilling in 1960s, and waste was buried in pit after abandonment of site in 1975. River encroached on pit in 1994, exposing debris and soil contaminated with DDT, metals, hydrocarbons and dichloromethane in 2-metre thick layer below high water mark. Various field tests were validated, followed by remediation in 2002 when site was frozen.
