Record #167223:
Wind-driven variability of the large-scale recirculating flow in the Nordic Seas and Arctic Ocean / Pål E. Isachsen, J.H. LaCasce, C. Mauritzen, S. Häkkinen.
Title: | Wind-driven variability of the large-scale recirculating flow in the Nordic Seas and Arctic Ocean / Pål E. Isachsen, J.H. LaCasce, C. Mauritzen, S. Häkkinen. |
Author(s): | Isachsen, Pål E. LaCasce, J. H. Mauritzen, C. Häkkinen, S. |
Date: | 2003. |
In: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. (2003.), Vol. 33(12) (2003) |
Abstract: | Depth-integrated currents were modelled using shallow-water equations, assuming balance between Ekman layers at surface and bottom. Data came from current meters and satellite altimetry. Currents are predominantly barotropic. Effectiveness of model is measured and discussed, with suggestions for improvement, e.g. using ice rather than wind velocity. Effects of lateral diffusion and bottom friction are compared. |
Notes: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. Vol. 33(12) :2534-2550 (2003). |
Keywords: | 519.673 -- Modelling. 551.465 -- Oceanography, dynamics. C -- Oceanography, hydrography and hydrology. (*3) -- Arctic regions. (*60) -- Arctic Ocean and adjacent waters. (*61) -- North Atlantic Ocean. |
