Effect of nutrient enrichments on the bacterial assemblage of Antarctic soils contaminated by diesel or crude oil / D. Delille, E. Pelletier, B. Delittle, F. Coulon.
Title: | Effect of nutrient enrichments on the bacterial assemblage of Antarctic soils contaminated by diesel or crude oil / D. Delille, E. Pelletier, B. Delittle, F. Coulon. |
Author(s): | Delille, D. Pelletier, E. Delittle, B. Coulon, F. |
Date: | 2003. |
In: | Polar Record. (2003.), Vol. 39(211) (2003) |
Abstract: | Evaluates benefit of adding fertilizers to oil-contaminated soils using results of studies in Géologie Archipelago in Terre Adélie, Antarctica in 1997 and 1999. Saprophytic and hydrocarbon-utilising micro-organisms increased during first month of experiments in most contaminated enclosures, with no clear difference between fertilized and unfertilised plots. All bacterial parameters in all contaminated soils increase significantly with diesel-oil contamination, whereas crude-oil contamination had no clear effects on microbial assemblages. |
