Abstract: Qillaq was leader who probably came to Pond Inlet from Cumberland Sound region. Reason for migration was possibly news of Polar Eskimos on Greenland, possibly to avoid revenge for a killing, or both. 18 completed journey. Some married locally. After various quarrels and conflicts between shamans, some returned to Baffin Island. Qillaq's great-grandson Itukusuk became important guide to expeditions, including Cook's. Freuchen's wife Navarana was granddaughter of great bear hunter in group - one-eyed Merqusaq.
