Abstract: Addresses estimation of snow accumulation on building roofs in heavy snowfall districts for structural and architectural planning. Notes that snowdrift on and around buildings is usually investigated by wind tunnel tests, but some aspects of similarity law have not yet been clarified. Investigates similarity law and relationship between wind properties and snowdrift by field observation. Two two-level flat roof building models were installed on an athletic field in Hokkaido, and snowdrift distribution, wind direction, wind velocity and temperature were measured every day for two winters. Also investigates dependence of snowdrift patterns on wind direction and velocity.
