Formation processes of the deposition and erosion of snow around a model building / Susumu Oikawa, Tsusaka Tomabechi.
Title: | Formation processes of the deposition and erosion of snow around a model building / Susumu Oikawa, Tsusaka Tomabechi. |
Author(s): | Oikawa, Susumu. Tomabechi, Tsusaka. |
Date: | 2003. |
Language: | Japanese. |
In: | Seppyo : Journal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice. (2003.), Vol. 65(3) (2003) |
Abstract: | Investigates deposition and erosion of snow in vicinity of a building, observing time variation of snow depth around model cube in a field. Classifies processes into three categories: deposition as wind speed falls and an equilibrium state with higher-saturated drift density of saltating snow changes rapidly to one with lower-saturated drift density; deposition of supersaturated particles formed at high wind speeds in flow separation area on windward side; erosion when increasing wind speed results in a more highly saturated drift density and particles from snow surface are supplied to the saltation layer. Associates these processes with balance between shear stress and immersed weight of particles in saltating layer. When equilibrium between two is disturbed, deposition or erosion occurs. |
