Record #166821:
A comparative study of ice scour-seabed interaction models / Kyungsik Choi, Jong-Ho Lee.
Title: | A comparative study of ice scour-seabed interaction models / Kyungsik Choi, Jong-Ho Lee. |
Author(s): | Choi, Kyungsik. Lee, Jong-Ho. |
Date: | 2003. |
Publisher: | Mombetsu: Okhotsk Sea & Cold Ocean Research Association |
In: | Proceedings of the 18th International Symposium on Okhotsk Sea and Sea Ice, Mombetsu, Hokkaido, Japan, 23-27 February 2003. (2003.), |
Abstract: | Seeks to establish appropriate burial depths for Arctic offshore pipelines to avoid effects of scour by ice keels. Proposes simplified model of ice interaction with seabed soil. Assumes trapezoidal cross section for ice ridge and allows for horizontal and vertical motion of ice. Calculates scour depth and soil resistance forces during scouring process for various ice keel angles and initial kinetic energies. Compares model with others previously developed and with field data from Sakhalin offshore and Canadian Beaufort Sea. Results fall within observed range but gives smaller scour depths than other models. |
