| Abstract: | Investigates variation of ice and snow thickness of the summer land-fast ice in Lüzow-holm Bay, Antarctica based on data from Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (2000-2001), JARE42. Uses video observation to evaluate accuracy of electro-magnetic induction (EMI) method for measuring total ice thickness. Discusses factors influencing spatial variation of sea ice thickness and snow depth. Investigates temporal variation in two-month summer period. Finds spatial distributions of total thickness and snow depth well correlated. Concludes total ice thickness estimates from EMI method generally exceed those from video observation. |
