Abrasion effect of ice cover on supports of hydraulic engineering structures in conditions of Sakhalin Island shelf / Alexander T. Bekker, Vladimir Seliverstov, Valeri Lioubimov, Tatyana E. Uvarova, Sergei D. Kim.

Title: Abrasion effect of ice cover on supports of hydraulic engineering structures in conditions of Sakhalin Island shelf / Alexander T. Bekker, Vladimir Seliverstov, Valeri Lioubimov, Tatyana E. Uvarova, Sergei D. Kim.
Author(s): Bekker, Alexander T.
Seliverstov, Vladimir.
Lioubimov, Valeri.
Uvarova, Tatyana E.
Kim, Sergei D.
Date: 2003.
Publisher: Mombetsu: Okhotsk Sea & Cold Ocean Research Association
In: Proceedings of the 18th International Symposium on Okhotsk Sea and Sea Ice, Mombetsu, Hokkaido, Japan, 23-27 February 2003. (2003.),
Abstract: Proposes method to calculate wear of a structure (ice-resistant platform, or IRP) from abrasion by drifting sea ice. Intends to aid forecasting of structure failure caused by gradual decrease of bearing capacity and scheduling of maintenance. Works in framework of published model of ice-IRP interaction due to Bekker. Considers cases of ice moving at general drift velocity coming to rest following initial contact with structure and of subsequent ice contact movement as force exerted by ice pack overcomes 'bite'. Derives expressions for depth of cutting along whole of structure contour in two cases. Typographical errors in equations and lack of structure make paper somewhat difficult.
