A cryolithogenic method for estimating palaeotemperature conditions during formation of the ice complex and subaerial periglacial sediments / V.N. Konishchev.

Title: A cryolithogenic method for estimating palaeotemperature conditions during formation of the ice complex and subaerial periglacial sediments / V.N. Konishchev.
Author(s): Konishchev, V. N.
Date: 2003.
Language: Russian transliteration entered into original records using BGN/PCGN 1947 romanisation of Russian; Cyrillic text in MARC 880 field(s) reverse transliterated from this by automated process; BGN/PCGN 1947 text then upgraded to Library of Congress romanisation.
In: Earth's Cryosphere. (2003.), Special issue (2003)
Abstract: Describes palaeotemperature reconstruction based on cryogenic disintegration of rocks. Uses coefficient of cryogenic contrast (CCC), based on different cryogenic stabilities of major rock forming minerals quartz and feldspar, to characterise mineral distribution over granulometric spectrum and reflect cryogenesis. Concludes CCC values depend primarily on mean annual ground temperature, observing linear relationship between CCC values for soils from areas of seasonal freezing and permafrost in northern Eurasia and mean annual ground temperature at 0.2-0.4 m depth. Discusses preliminary interpretations of CCC values in terms of paleotemperature for different exposures of ice complex of northern and central Sakha Republic (Yakutiya) and of periglacial Pleistocene sediments of Russian Plain.
