Record #166747:

Freezing kinetics, thermal strains and heaving of frozen soils / S.E. Grechishchev.

Title: Freezing kinetics, thermal strains and heaving of frozen soils / S.E. Grechishchev.
Author(s): Grechishchev, S. E.
Date: 2003.
Language: Russian transliteration entered into original records using BGN/PCGN 1947 romanisation of Russian; Cyrillic text in MARC 880 field(s) reverse transliterated from this by automated process; BGN/PCGN 1947 text then upgraded to Library of Congress romanisation.
In: Earth's Cryosphere. (2003.), Special issue (2003)
Abstract: Establishes relationship between anisotropy of thermal strain and heaving of frozen soils and kinetics of pore water freezing over a range of negative temperatures. Describes experiment measuring lateral pressure in ice versus freezing rate under conditions of one-dimensional freezing in an open system. Observes anisotropy of thermal strains through heaving in presence or absence of lateral shrinkage. Concludes differences cannot be explained by Duhamel-Neiman model with assumption of thermal strain anisotropy.
