Record #166744:

Southern limit of syngenetic ice-wedge formation during the Holocene climatic optimum in north-west Siberia / Yu.K. Vasil'chuk, and 6 others.

Title: Southern limit of syngenetic ice-wedge formation during the Holocene climatic optimum in north-west Siberia / Yu.K. Vasil'chuk, and 6 others.
Author(s): Vasil'chuk, Yu. K.
Date: 2003.
Language: Russian transliteration entered into original records using BGN/PCGN 1947 romanisation of Russian; Cyrillic text in MARC 880 field(s) reverse transliterated from this by automated process; BGN/PCGN 1947 text then upgraded to Library of Congress romanisation.
In: Earth's Cryosphere. (2003.), Special issue (2003)
Abstract: Describes study of thick (5-5.5 m) peat bog in Shchuch'ya River Valley on southern Yamal, north-west Siberia. Reports exposure of large (over 5 m vertical thickness) polygonal ice-wedges in peat and underlying lacustrine sandy loam. Presents results from peat cross-sections and boreholes, including thick (up to 1.5 m) wood horizon in peat base, and describes structure of ice-wedge complex. Cites large vertical size of ice wedges as main evidence of syngenetic origin (contemporaneous with wood and peat horizons at around 6 to 7 ka BP). Refines paleofacial and paleotemperature reconstructions using radiocarbon dating and analyses of pollen and spores, stable isotopes, enzymatic activity and chemical composition.
