Reconstruction of glacial/interglacial changes in the global carbon cycle from CO₂ and δ¹³CO₂ in Antarctic ice cores / Hubertus Fischer, Martin Wahlen, Jesse Smith.

Abstract: | Discusses changes in atmospheric CO₂ and δ¹³C from Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) to present, derived from Taylor Dome, Dome Concordia and Vostok Antarctic ice core records. Identifies most important driving factors for carbon cycle changes during last 30,000 years, finding changes in size of terrestrial biosphere can account for observed CO₂ and δ¹³C changes during Holocene and Last Glacial Maximum, whereas changes in atmosphere/ocean system dominate during glacial/interglacial transition. Suggests variation in Southern Ocean sea ice cover may provide direct link to temperature able to account for CO₂ change during transition. In: Global Scale Climate and Environment Study through Polar Deep Ice Cores: Proceedings of the International Symposium on the Dome Fuji Ice Core and Related Topics, 27-28 February 2001, Tokyo. |
