| Abstract: | Addresses slow advance of interpretation of glaciochemical records in terms of past environmental changes. Uses data from Vostok, Dome Fuji and EPICA (Dome Concordia) deep ice cores to examine understanding of air/snow transfer functions, nature and origin of Antarctic aerosols and their modification during transport, and a possible link between high dust production and low atmospheric CO₂ concentration. Recommends experiments to determine chemical composition of individual particles trapped in ice to identify interactions occurring during atmospheric transport and include these in models of biogeochemical cycles in Antarctic atmosphere. Also recommends coupling ice core analyses to atmospheric and air-snow studies at deep drilling sites.
